Less than 1% of climbers dedicate themselves to equipping new climbing routes.
Through the perspective of four climbers from the Basque Country who have devoted their lives to bolting, we are introduced to a world that remains largely unknown to many. Their lives intersect to offer a deeply human story that speaks to something that ultimately unites us all: passion.
Route equipping is perhaps the least-known facet of climbing: only around 1% of climbers equip the routes the other 99% climb. While most climbing films focus on elite climbers, this one shifts the lens to equippers and first ascensionists. As the sport booms and gym-raised climbers head into the mountains, it highlights the altruism and environmental awareness at the heart of climbing.
