Aleš Kunaver and Our First Expeditions to the World’s Highest Mountains

Aleš Kunaver is one of the most important Slovenian alpinists, the leader of Slovenia's first Himalayan expeditions and the founder of the first school for Nepalese mountain guides. We meet his companions - alpinists, friends and family - and through their memories we build an image of a man who believed that alpinism was not about overcoming nature, but a way to become more human. 

Through the memories of mountaineers, friends and family, the film portrays Aleš Kunaver not only as a top climber but as a man of deep values. It traces the first six Himalayan expeditions he led, his belief that alpinism refines human character rather than conquers nature, and his legacy: the school for Nepalese mountain guides in Manang, founded in 1979 and still operating today.
