PROGRAM

Experience a Special Night of Nepali Music, Tradition, and the Voices of Filmmakers!
Join us for "The Night of Himalaya - NEPAL" and discover the true soul of Nepal, beyond the screen.

From the very beginning, let the essence of Nepal captivate you.
The evening will open with the stirring sounds of a live traditional Nepali music performance. Following this, we will share in the warmth of Nepali culture by draping the 'Khata'—a traditional scarf signifying welcome and respect—upon one another.

At the center of this unique evening are screenings of two short films that offer a window into modern Nepali society: Sanai and Songs of Love and Hate. The screenings will be followed by a Q&A Session, where director Saurav Ghimire of Songs of Love and Hate will share his vivid stories from behind the camera.

Gracing this special occasion will be Her Excellency Dr. Shiva Maya Tumbahangphe, Ambassador of Nepal to the Republic of Korea, as well as renowned directors and actors representing the Nepali film industry.

Sanai

Nepal | 2022 | 15min | Color | Fiction

Rupa and Maya (11) are best friends in a village where class discrimination and patriarchy is still very much the norm. One belongs to a Brahmin (upper) caste while other a Dalit (untouchable) caste. Everyone else makes them feel that they are different from one another, but what matters to them is their unconditional love and friendship.

Songs of Love and Hate

Nepal | 2024 | 17min | B&W | Docufiction

Prem, the charismatic host of a popular radio show offering advice on matters of the heart, is himself plagued by heartache. He seeks solace in the rugged mountains. As he goes through his own emotional upheaval, desperate calls from listeners asking him for advice echo through the wilderness. A gripping tale of emotional turmoil and self-discovery.
