Every year, the UMFF Focus program presents various special areas of focus at the Ulju Mountain Film Festival (UMFF).
First this year is a special on a country that has unique mountain cultures to share through films - 'Alps-AUSTRIA'. This special will include various screenings, as well as programs like 'The Filmmaker of the 8000s Kurt Diemberger', 'Evolution of the Built Environment in Vorarlberg', and an Austrian Party. This year’s country special will be especially memorable, as the recipient of the 2019 Ulju Mountain Culture Award, Kurt Diemberger, is from Austria and plans to visit the film festival. In addition, a little preview of next year’s lineup has been prepared in the 'Prequel: Rockies-CANADA.' It will be interesting to predict what mountainous country will be introduced followingthe Himalayas, Alps, and the Rockies. Also, the special 'Ulju Vision: LIM Il-jin - The History of Korean Mountain Film' will bring to light the late director LIm Il-jin, Korea’s one and only mountain film director. As a marginal man between cinematographer and director, broadcasting and cinema, his passion for the mountain will be evident in 6 of his films screened at the festival.
Lastly, 'The Road Together' is this year’s UMFF slogan. It symbolizes the passion and efforts of the staff working to make the festival happen, as they meet with the audience coming to share in their appreciation of film. Five films will be showcased in this selection as man and nature meet in the Yeongnam Alps.
